Description
Bavachinin, a natural compound isolated from the Chinese herb Fructus Psoraleae, exhibits potent anti-angiogenic activity both in vitro and in vivo. Bavachinin inhibits the increase in HIF-1α activity in human KB carcinoma (a HeLa cell derivative) and human HOS osteosarcoma cells under hypoxia in a concentration-dependent manner, likely by enhancing the interaction between von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) and HIF-1α. Bavachinin significantly suppresses Th2 cytokine production, including IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13. Notably, Bavachinin almost completely blocks inflammation in the ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized animal asthma model.
