Description
Lipoic acid is a potent natural antioxidant renowned for its exceptional free radical scavenging capabilities, surpassing vitamin C by more than 100 times. It is particularly effective in anti-aging formulations. Lipoic acid also acts as a chelator of metal ions, binding to copper ions in tyrosinase and serving as a competitive inhibitor, which contributes to its notable whitening properties. Despite its benefits, lipoic acid faces challenges such as low solubility, poor stability, and a strong odor, which hinder its use in cosmetics. These limitations can be addressed through supramolecular inclusion technology. Lipoic acid is versatile and can be incorporated into a wide range of products, including those for anti-aging, wrinkle reduction, whitening, spot lightening, anti-inflammatory and anti-sensitivity treatments, acne management, scar reduction, and damage repair. It is compatible with various formulations such as lotions, creams, gels, and water-based products.
